Having painted the mounting plate the same colour as your wall allows the switch to look as if it is attached directly to the wall and not protruding outwards.

The Plasterboard/Gyprock Metal Bracket
This mounting system can be attached to plasterboard/gyprock while still allowing the switch plate to sit flush against the mounting surface without the need of wall boxes behind the plasterboard.
It comes in kit form ( 2 Metal Plates and the necessary mounting screws) ready for fixing to the plasterboard.
This method is the ideal solution when you have situations of the plasterboard already being attached to the stud work prior to allocation of switch position and where it is not practical to fit internal wall boxes
